Ashgabat International Airport

On September 17, 2016, a new airport was opened with the participation of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The construction of the airport began with the Turkish company Polimeks in January 2013 and was completed in September 2016.

The project includes the construction of three terminals - passenger, VIP and cargo. A new runway with a length of 3,800 meters was built and the existing runway was reconstructed. The taxiways, parking spaces and ramps for aircrafts, air traffic control tower, and a 72 meter long control tower were built. The total area of the site on which the airport complex is located is 1200 hectares.

The new terminal of the international airport is presented in the form of a falcon-lachin bird, which in the form of spreading wings, is presented to residents as well as guests of the capital. The building is constructed of steel structures, glass, and is also lined with white stone, which enchants with its beauty. On the territory of the international airport there are thirty telescopic gates, which serve passengers to get on the plane, as well as from the plane to the terminal building. The terminal territory is 166 thousand square meters, as well as a height of 45 meters, and the length consists of more than 68 meters.

The new air terminal complex, having a unique modern design, is the “calling card” of the capital of Turkmenistan. Ashgabat International Airport has the ability to serve annually more than 14 million people, for which more than 1,800 aviation specialists work at the airport. For the convenience and safety of passengers, the airport is focused on the latest innovative technologies that will ensure safety at the Ashgabat International Airport. For example, telescopic bridges are located at the airport, for the safe passage of passengers to and from the plane, an electronic check-in desk, where passengers are provided with all services, as well as running elevators and escalators. In addition, the airport provides HVAC - cooling systems, as well as heating. There are also FIDS - warning systems that in various languages provide information about departures on an electronic scoreboard, as well as X-RAY - X-ray scanners that help detect contraindicated drugs in a timely manner; CCTV is a video surveillance system that allows airport security to promptly detect any wrongdoing. The international airport also has a modern fire-fighting system, and directly alarm systems.

The passenger terminal is five-storied and designed for local and international flights. The waiting and check-in halls, information boards, information bureaus, sensory electronic help system, ticket offices, Internet cafes, post offices, pay phones, rental stations and hotel reservations, currency exchange, ATMs, lockers, cafeterias, restaurants, shops "duty-free". There are hotels for pilots and transit passengers, mother and child rooms, special playgrounds, first aid cabinets, press and retail kiosks, and a conference room.

The cargo terminal with storage facilities is designed to handle 200 thousand tons of cargo per year from a centralized station for fueling aircraft, hangars for maintenance of aircraft and helicopters.

The airport houses the administrative buildings of the State National Service "Turkmenhowaýollary", the aviation transport enterprises "Turkmenistan" and the flight squad "Turkmen Airlines". A school for the training of aviation personnel was built, where 600 people and a training complex for crew training, medical and sports and fitness centers, underground and open parking lots - for work and for passengers, can be trained at the same time. It is also planned to open a museum of the development of Turkmen aviation.

You can drive to the airport by car either along Bitarap Turkmenistan Avenue or along Atamurat Niyazov Avenue. Around the airport there is a 24-hour parking. At the station square there are stops for city transport and taxis that allow you to deliver passengers to any point in Ashgabat.
